The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), registered in 2009 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is a global, non-profit, international membership organization and the world's largest sustainable cotton growing project. BCI is committed to working with a wide range of stakeholders to transform cotton production methods from cotton fields to suppliers, manufacturers and brands through sustainable development of commodities that make good cotton a mainstream.

Currently, it has representative offices in China, India, Pakistan and London. The Good Cotton Development Association has more than 400 member organizations worldwide, including cotton growing units, cotton textile companies and retail brands. It is currently the largest sustainable cotton planting project in the world. BCI is committed to working with a wide range of stakeholders to transform cotton production methods from cotton fields to suppliers, manufacturers and brands through sustainable development of commodities that make good cotton a mainstream.

Its main purpose is to make the global cotton planting and production more conducive to cotton farmers, more conducive to the planting environment, and more conducive to the future development of the industry.

The Good Cotton Principles and Criteria (P&C) provides a global definition of good cotton and includes social and environmental standards for cotton farmers around the world.

The Good Cotton Supply Chain Regulation (CoC) Principles set out specific requirements for companies that purchase or sell good cotton or good cotton products in the supply chain. For example, at the cotton field and ginning plant level, good cotton refers to cotton produced by BCI cotton farmers that are grown and licensed according to BCIP&C requirements; cotton farmers and ginning mills must have good cotton (ie 100% good cotton seed cotton or 100% good cotton lint) The cotton bales are separated from ordinary cotton for stacking and processing. After the ginning plant, “good cotton products” refers to the “good cotton reporting unit” (referred to as BCCUs quota) obtained or distributed when purchasing or selling cotton or cotton products. The CoC Principles are the primary guidance document for good cotton supply and demand, helping to support and motivate farmers to adopt more sustainable farming practices.
